Interested in joining landsar and the Christchurch ACR team?

Due to the technical nature and sometimes difficult terrain of many rescues, it is important that we understand your skills and experience, for both safety and selection of rescue teams.· Safety is the paramount consideration for ACR, both your safety and the safety of other ACR team members.· Rescue team selection is based on the unique requirements of each individual rescue, and as such teams are selected based on a skills/experience match and availability.

A valid Landsar ID allows for you too be funded to up skill and participate in the TPP rescue courses we need for the ACR team, it also gives you access to areas in the event of a disaster or emergency, and provides local discounts at the participating outdoor stores that support Landsar New Zealand

To join the local Canterbury Landsar group, so that Landsar has you on their database and you have a valid Landsar ID number please contact the Regional Secretary Teressa May at  This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. and inform Teressa that you wish to join Canterbury Landsar and ACR in Christchurch.

Prerequisites for ACR membership are the successful completion and competency in the following TPP courses as a minimum for base level understanding:

1. Foundation Rope Rescue
2. Vertical Rope Rescue
3. Helicopter Safety
4. Avalanche Rescue

Also a current 1st aid certificate is a must

Further learning is to have:
5. Advanced Rope Rescue

From here we can add you to the reserve list, we have a number of people that come and go for what ever reason, we maintain 25 active members at any one time. I'll review this list every 6 months and contact you with regards to joining the ACR team.

The final step before acceptance into the team is to meet and spend at least 6 months training with you.· Don’t worry, this is generally an informal time and it also allows you to meet other ACR team members.

Once the full registration process is complete and we are satisfied with your time spent, you will receive an induction into the ACR team.· This will ensure you understand how the team operates, what our safety protocols are, how to keep your skills & contacts up-to-date and other important information. This is also a time to ask any other questions you may have and to check that you are still keen to join.
